Grandma came to share in our celebration of Audrey's 7th birthday. We opened presents, sang "Happy Birthday" and ate cake.

On her birthday morning, Audrey woke up to 7 birthday pancakes stacked high with seven candles on top. She also requested a pancake with the number 7 shape. From Ethan, Audrey got the Frozen music and Frozen bubble bath. From Sophie, Audrey got Frozen undies and Frozen lip gloss. From us, Audrey got an Elsa and an Ana costume.
Audrey's 7th birthday was filled with art and painting. Audrey and her friends did some watercolor painting with black sharpie markers, tempera painting on canvas, and food coloring painted on frosted cookies.
Pumpkins in October...one of our favorite times of the year! We did a lot of pumpkin art, crafts, reading, songs, and baking. In fact, we were so busy baking and crafting, I forgot to take pictures of most of it this year. Of course I am very sad about that...but I will do better next month!
We celebrated Michaelmas with our homeschool group friends this year. We met at a park for a lunch of dragon bread and dragon soup. The kids were knighted and given capes of gold to wear. They also made watercolor crowns and paper roll fire breathing dragons.
We spent some really fun and productive September days baking apple treats. With my apple peeler, Audrey, and my apple chopper, Ethan, we were able to make apple pies, apple crisps, apple bread, apple sauce, and apple muffins. We made many apple crafts too, including one of our favorites, apple printing!
Audrey had a very special butterfly friend visit her butterfly garden this year! It was the most amazing Monarch Butterfly and he stayed in her garden for a few days. This butterfly would rest on her finger!
It was a very windy day at the apple orchard this year. But we still picked plenty of apples for pies, applesauce, and many other apple goodies!
Each week we read a new story. We read that same story every day of that week. After we read the story, we expand on it with other activities throughout the week (arts, crafts, science, social studies). Our first story of the new school year was Pelle's New Suit by Elsa Beskow. This story is about a young boy and his sheep. He gets help from his family and friends to sheer his sheep, card the wool, spin the wool into yarn, dye the yarn, weave the yarn, and then sew it into a new suit. So, with friends, we dyed our own wool roving and yarn with Kool-Aid. The colors were so pretty. Then, we practiced weaving our yarn on a handmade loom.

Our story of loving and learning at home...
"Let them be little, 'cause they're only that way for a while. Give them hope, give them praise, give them love every day. Let them cry, let them giggle; let them sleep in the middle, oh, let them be little."
- Written and Sung by Billy Dean
