We began our first grade year with a focus on fairy tales. Audrey and Ethan became the main characters of their very own fairy tale. In their story, Audrey and Ethan must try and help the people of Fairland find all the letters that went missing in the castle's library. To do this, they must jump into fairy tale story books with the help of a wise wizard. As we read each fairy tale story, they must find the letters, collect them, and then add the letters to their treasure chest. When they have collected every missing letter they will restore all the books in Fairland and be crowned King and Queen of the land! Audrey and Ethan used oil pastels, tempera paint, glitter glue, and rhinestones to create royal self-portraits. Audrey and Ethan used oil pastels and watercolors to create their own fairy tale castle. Ethan made his castle with many pokes on it for protection. Audrey made her castle with rainbow colors. Audrey and Ethan also created these amazing star wands. The wands help them use magic to find the letters in each fairy tale we read. They painted two felt stars with glittery water colors. Then, I sewed the stars together and attached the wooden stick. We also made fairy tale play dough. We used our favorite Kool-aid play dough recipe, added glitter and rhinestones along with some cupcake molds to make many royal creations including fairy tale cupcakes!

Our story of loving and learning at home...
"Let them be little, 'cause they're only that way for a while. Give them hope, give them praise, give them love every day. Let them cry, let them giggle; let them sleep in the middle, oh, let them be little."
