We spent a week during Christmas Time celebrating gingerbread. We read our favorite gingerbread books; Gingerbread Baby and Gingerbread Friends by Jan Brett. We made our own gingerbread people. Then, we had Audrey's Daisy Girl Scout friends over for a Gingerbread Party. We decorated gingerbread people and gingerbread houses. Audrey also made gingerbread play dough as a little Christmas gift for her Daisy Friends to take home.

We spent one of our weeks before Christmas focusing on Christmas Trees. We made Christmas Tree brownies and many different kinds of ornaments for our Christmas Tree. We sang our favorite Christmas Tree song, "Oh Christmas Tree" as we put all the homemade ornaments on our tree. One of the most memorable things we did during our week of Christmas Trees was to read the beautiful story The Little Fir Tree. The story tells of three trees; an olive tree, a palm tree, and a fir tree, that stood just outside the stable where Baby Jesus was born. The trees were trying to decide what gift they would give the Newborn King. The olive tree said that he was going to give Baby Jesus and his father and mother olives as his gift. The palm tree said that he was going to give Baby Jesus and his father and mother a bunch of dates as his gift. But the fir tree did not know what gift he could give and that made him very sad. Later that night it became very cold and frost covered everything. When Baby Jesus woke the next morning he looked out and the first thing he saw was the little fir tree glistening silvery white in the ice and frost. This made Baby Jesus clap his hands and laugh with joy. Mary said, "Little Fir Tree, you have given my son a real gift. See how delighted he is at your beauty. Thank you Little Fir Tree." The palm tree and the olive tree then bent down to whisper, "You have given the best gift after all."

Our story of loving and learning at home...
"Let them be little, 'cause they're only that way for a while. Give them hope, give them praise, give them love every day. Let them cry, let them giggle; let them sleep in the middle, oh, let them be little."
