Decorating sugar cookies is fun any day of the year, but it is a special treat to make our Easter shaped eggs, bunnies, and chicks for Easter Day!
The first kind of eggs we decorated this year, were wet on wet watercolor painted eggs. Later, we did melted crayon eggs and dipped them in Kool Aid colors. We spent some time doing Easter Bunny things to get ready for Easter. We baked bunny bread together, crafted some patterned Easter Bunny Bunting with paint and cotton ball tails, read our favorite Easter Bunny book (The Easter Egg by Jan Brett), and sang some Easter Bunny songs.
"Easter Bunny, his ears are floppy Easter Bunny, his feet are hoppy His nose is soft His fur is fluffy His tail is short and powder puffy!" Recently, Sophie has gotten really excited about our weekly baking days. She loves to help out in the kitchen with everything, including kneading our bread dough. She also loves to help with washing the dishes, which is a big bonus!
On the day before the First Day of Spring, Audrey painted a new fairy house and Sophie painted her own little wooden fairy peg dolls. Audrey set out her house the night before the First Day of Spring. Then, on the First Day of Spring, she went out to see if the spring fairies had visited. They had! The left fairy treasures in tiny bird nests and flowers along her fairy path. Audrey was very happy!
We read our favorite St. Patrick's Day story about a little leprechaun looking for his pot of gold. Audrey, Ethan, and Sophie went to work creating watercolor paintings inspired by this story. Ethan painted the little leprechaun, his pot of gold, and the little girl that caught him in the end. Audrey created a beautiful rainbow of color across her paper. Sophie loves painting with watercolors and was just so happy to be painting!
Ethan turned 5 on February 15th. We celebrated at home with our family. Ethan ate a stack of 5 pancakes with 5 candles, syrup, and sprinkles on top for breakfast. We made him a Star Wars cake and decorated the house in a Star Wars theme. After the dinner of Ethan's choosing, we sang "Happy Birthday" and ate cake and ice cream. Ethan really likes Star Wars. His favorite is Darth Vader. He got some fun Star Wars Lego sets for his birthday.

Our story of loving and learning at home...
"Let them be little, 'cause they're only that way for a while. Give them hope, give them praise, give them love every day. Let them cry, let them giggle; let them sleep in the middle, oh, let them be little."
